Last year, LEGO has released a short animated film to celebrate its 80th birthday. The 17-minute video describes the life and struggles of founder Ole Kirk Christiansen (who created the company in 1932) and his son Godtfred (LEGO’s second owner).
The company started as carpentry workshop that mostly construct houses and furniture. In 1924, the workshop burned down. But, Ole Kirk stood up and constructed a larger workshop, and worked towards expanding his business. Unlucky, soon after, the world was hit by the Great Depression, and Ole Kirk had fewer customers. He then began producing miniature versions of his products as design aids. It was these miniature models of stepladders and ironing boards that inspired him to begin producing toys.
The rest is history. Today, Lego is the world leading toy maker, that has also taken over the video games industry with its hugely successful Star Wars releases.
The short animated film below captured with vividness, fun and entertainment the extraordinary entrepreneurship talents of the founders, and the countless struggles they went through. The film is produced by Lani Pixels, an animation studio which has created many LEGO animated television commercials.http://www.siliconafrica.com
